populating list
I'm developing a site and I need to either download or purchase lists. I'm looking for categories and sub categories similar to that of ebay. Is there a place where this can be downloaded?

For drop downs. I'm developing a site similar to ebay and short of entering all the categories and sub categories I was wondering where we can purchase these lists. For example. If I wanted to search for a Mercedes C230. My first category would be New or Used | Truck, Car, SUV, Van, etc | Year | Make |
Rather than entering these all in manually I was looking to purchase lists for them. There are infinite possiblities as we will have products and services on this site....

Contract eBay and see if they will sell them to you?

Other option would be to build the list as you go.

So that when someone comes to put in a Mercedes C230 have them pick the category/sub cat from ones added previously. Or if they see one that doesnt fit have an "Other" which they enter. Then add that cat to the possibilites for the next person

I don't think ebay will give you part of their db.
