Good quality backlinks
Hi Everybody

My name is Rourkey
I'm a trainee SEO assistant looking to learn more.
What i'm wondering about is the quality of backlinks.

i realise to get sites well indexed with the major search engines you need good off-page SEO which is:

1 Article Submissions
2 Press Releases
3 Submission to Directories
4 Reciprocal Links

What these 4 headings acheive is quality back-links with specific keywords that the search engines like so you get your sites indexed better.

Two things i wanted to ask, firstly where on the heirachy from the best back-links to the worst back-links do the search engines rank certain links.

What i mean is. Is it better for your sites links to come from a press release or from submissions to directories.

Secondly, what about links from certain forums. i see all kinds of abuse going on in certain forums. Do the search engines count these links as links with keywords or do they mark them down as being non-relevant. Or could they be relevant and does it just piss people off as being non-ethical.

some feedback would be appreciated

Any link is a good link from a technical standpoint. As far as forums, it depends on the forum rules. A lot of places allow links in signatures, but no links as posts. Search engines don't mind either way, however, many forums use search engine unfriendly URLs.

If you post a link on a site that is popular, like this one for example, your site will probably be found by google a bit faster, since this site is heavily indexed by google almost everyday.

Posting a link on another site that is not very popular, might not get you anywhere, but it's still good to have. You can leave a link to your site in your sig on this place, this should help quite a bit. It would also help if you created a xml sitemap for your site and submit it to google. This will tell google exactly what you have so it will help index your site faster. If you would like, I can create your site an xml sitemap, all I need is your site URL.

This is so correct. Google places extra weight/relevancy points in their PageRank for sites which have a greater level of validity and relevance towards the keyword.
