Alignment Problems in Internet Explorer
Hi all,

My current problem has got me stumped. After hours getting it to work in Firefox, it now doesn't work in Internet Explorer (6 or 7).

My Site

[SOLVED] The header doesn't align properly. This started happening after I created a new area in the top left so that the school crest was always centered over the menu bar (it is all % so it works on the 600x800 res pc's at school). [/SOLVED]

I also keep getting error messages in IE, it says there are errors on the page, but it never specifies what the error is

And thirdly, why do colours not match in IE??? I'm using the exact same colour codes and it works fine in FF but it looks unprofessional in IE6/7!

I've tried doing the validation stuff at W3schools and I've fixed the stuff I understand.

Could someone help me out here, because it's so frustrating. I'm gonna keep trying nonetheless.

And any other advice and critique is always welcome

Thanks in advance

Hi Matt,

Not got much time so I can only answer the first bit. In the #header styles, I would remove position: relative; & left: 20%; then replace them with float: left; This should sort out your alignment problems.

I notice that when I downsize my window even to 1024x768, the left menu bleeds over onto the content. I would either consider fixing the width of that left column, or moving the menu under the header and making it a horizontal one which will leave a lot more room for content at 800x600.

Hope this helps

Arrgg... I don't know why I added those codes. There's no image in the header section so it shouldn't overlap with the logo section. Damn... *slaps forehead*.

I was too tired to look at stuff to do today (crawling through code isn't the greatest thing to do when tired ), so thanks, I really appreciate it.

Btw, the menu does not run over. When you first change the resolution, the menu doesn't change width, but after you refresh the page it's OK.

---

One last thing I forgot to mention - some of the lines in the menu go over to 2 lines at 600x800 res. All the menu data is in js/menu_content.js and I would like to know what should make the height auto adjust, it does like the word auto, even when quotes are used. Thanks
