Creating a simple webpage allowing other's to update it
I am helping our local Legion Auxillary create a simple website for state baseball. It needs to be
easily updatable by a person that that isn't computer illiterate, but isn't the most advanced person.
Currently, I am looking at something like this: http://www.holdregelegionbaseball.org/Area6.html as a simple example
of what I want to do. They used an excel image, then copied it and put it on a browser. Is there going
any simplier than that or not? Thanks guys!

When you say that the user isn't isn't "computer illiterate, but isn't the most advanced person" do you mean they know how to edit web pages and perform an ftp of the changed pages and have access to a editor like Frontpage or Dreamweaver?

An easier way is to use a mySQL database and a php script that allows them to change the specific area of the site or page (after logging in as an admin of course so that not just anyone can chage the stuff).
Can you host the web site on a server that allows both PHP and gives you a mysql database?

If so, I can create a very simple script for you to edit parts of a page liveover the internet. Just PM me and I will be happy to provide you a link to test this to see if it in fact easy or not.

Cheers

Well my teacher (who I found most of this info from), didn't give me much of the specifics so I need to talk to her again tomorrow but thanks for the offer. I could possibly be interested in doing something that way because it sounds like it would be an easy way for him to edit the page because I am assuming the person does not have dreamweaver (at least that's what I use).

Ok, find out if its a linux or windows server running IIS or apache?
If you are able to create a MySQL database?
If you can run scripts like PHP?

I would be happy to show you the example on how to edit the pages, and what you would need to do for file permission (if windows) or chmod. I can provide you a complete walkthrough.

The script I created uses a great editor named FCKeditor to dynamically manipulate the database, which stores the page info, so editing the pages would be like editing a word document once the site is set up.
This can be added to any existing site as well as long as it meets the requirements above!

Do you have an existing web site?
