Members script - Help plz!
Hey all,

For my website, I would like to give near full access to everyone who feels like looking around and reading whats on the site, but I want to make it that if the user would like to comment they would need to login or register first. Also, if they want to write an article and post it on the website they must become a member, then the article they wrote will be sent directly to me for checking and I would later post it on the website.

Basically I want a simple register / login / logout script that will allow the user to post an article and comment on articles. Any Ideas??

Thank you in advance!

Maybe if you tell us more...WordPress does everything you've said so far.

Yes, it does. But I am not looking for something as advanced as that. I want to have my own design going and have it all running off of my webhost. I will be having categories like "How tos" that have sub articles including tutorials and what not. When someone clicks one of the articles it displays the page including the text of the article. At the bottom of this I would like there to be an area for them to comment the article. In order to comment however, they have to be logged in. I would also like them to be able to, once logged in, write up an article and choose the category they would like it to be displayed under, then be able to hit submit and it be sent to me for a review, then I post it where stated.

Sorry for the length, but I hope that clears things up.

Still not sure what else you need then, you can use Wordpress on your host and use your own design.

You can take a look at others at http://opensourcecms.com as well. Anything under "Blogs" or "Portals" there should be able to do this.

Have you done anything in php?

What you have described is very easy, even if you only know a little php.

I am still a nooby when it comes to PHP. I am slowly learning it and I finally figured out how to setup a register / login / logout area, and I have learned that you need to use sessions or cookies to determine if the user has indeed logged in. it isn't the best one though... :-P Just for practice.

Would you mind helping me out with what I described earlier MMJ? Or pointing me in the right direction so I can figure it out on my own?

Thank you both for responding! Brandon, I don't know if I would like to use wordpress, My website isn't necessarily going to be a blogging website. It will just be a website so others can read articles and view pictures and jokes and what not, and if they would like, upload their own.

Thank you again!

It very easy. Do a login form. Put the login value into a session. put the comment box. Tell php to check the session if it is logged on do nothing, if it isn't logged on than echo in the textarea disabled="true"
