Solved: Someone Please Help Me!
I am just beginning to learn CSS and HTML. Self taught. I am working for a company and helping them with the redesign of their website (writing all the content etc.) Well they are doing an online store through an ecommerce company. The company provides a CSS sheet for the "store". I can edit it and upload it back into their system. They suggested Firebug to edit and that is what I have been using. I also have FrontPage2003.

I can edit the HMTL and get it to look exactly like what I want, but I can't get the CSS to edit correctly. I have tried everything! The toolbar expands across the whole screen and all I want it to do is center and be 989px long, but every time I put in the code it comes out funky. I know the code is going in right but something in the CSS isn't working. Like I said the HTML works perfectly how I want it! Oh please help me! I can call the company but I would love not to, because I don't want them to think I am not capable. I have tried text-algin: center; and I have even tried forcing it over but all that does is force it over and look funny with the rest of the page. What should I do? I have the HTML how do I convert it into the CSS?

THANKS!
Tammy

Use Notpad as the editor...
I taught myself to use style sheets and notepad as the editor for my company's web site. It took me a year working just one day a week. I set up the web site on my computer and just started writing. I learned to use the web as a source for questions on html and css (style sheets) I just typed a question into google. Generally I got enough hits from which to find an answer. I tried using frontpage but when I did I had no idea what the code was doing, and there was so much of it! I wanted to know what I was doing. I learned to use the online validation service (http://validator.w3.org/) to check my code (there is also one for style sheets)

Feel free to look at my company's web pages www.aob.com (and view their source to.) I am still learning and there is a lot to learn. I wish you luck. If you ask a question I can answer I will give it a try. You may wish to also try notepad2 (just do a search for it and download it) it is a more talented replacement for notepad.

Maybe if you post some specific examples of things you're having problems with, we can help you so you can better learn how to apply CSS styling to get the desired results.

Peace...
