Solved: XML syntax being added to my Dreamweaver pages
Hi all

Using DW (CS3), I have a template that has a doctype as follows:

Code:
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
No where in my HTML do I declare that it's an XML document, so how come, each time I create a new page, based on this template, that new tages (like img, for example) are always appended with a / before the closing > of that tag.

HTML Code:
<img src="../../images/banners/advert2.jpg" alt="description" width="120" height="240" />
rather than

Code:
<img src="../../images/banners/advert2.jpg" alt="description" width="120" height="240">
The result is that when I use the Validator (set to HTML 4.0 only) I get numerous messages like:

"The tag: "img" has an XML style closing syntax for an empty element even though version "HTML4" is not an XML tag language. [HTML 4.0]"

Have I some setting wrong in the application?

Try this, create a new page based on your template. When the page is displayed, right-click on it and click "Page Properties". Then, look at the "title/encoding" settings and see if the DTD is XHTML 1.0 Strict, which is the default DTD for new pages in DW CS3.

If the DTD *is* set to XHTML 1.0 Strict, then you'll have to contact Adobe to find out why the DTD specified in the template isn't being used as the DTD for the new page.

I was able to load existing pages and create a new page that didn't have a XHTML 1.0 Strict DTD and adding images to those pages did NOT use XML format.

Peace...

Well well well...

You seem to have hit the spot at the first pass.

For some reason, my default in CS3 was set to HTML 4.01 Transitional,

This will explain it.

I'll re-apply the default and edit the templated to be XHTML and progress from there.

Fine fellow! Thanks!

Chris
