Can u register an website idea?
I have an idea for an website that i want to build.
But I know it will take me a long time to actually run it. But I'm scared someone would take the idea when i'm at it.
Can you like register for a copyright or something of an website for a particular market?

Hi Champilee,

If you don't tell anyone your idea, they can't copy ;-)

But if someone should be thinking about the same idea and be making it, then from what i know there is no way of protecting "an idea", you can protect your site, but by actually making it is copyrighted in it's own sense, and it's your work, therefore others can't use the site, but they can still use the idea.

If we could protect ideas, then there would only be one of everything.. i.e 1 search engine, 1 hosting website and so on :-)

Regards,
Anthony

You could patent the process you used to build the website, but not the website itself or its idea. You can copyright the contents of the website, though. And you could trademark the "look and feel" of the site. But not patent either of those.
