unauthorized FTP access found in *my network places*
Hello,

I was looking in *my network places* to see how to setup my home wired network to share files between two computers hooked to my wired router. I failed but found some other unfamiliar and un-authorized network ftp address appearing to have been created this past summer to access my web site via FTP, listed on my computer network from a university--at least that's what the ftp address label said--that was under my website network place. I was first alarmed the person may have gotten access to my personal computer which I use to maintain my web site. Godaddy.com who hosts my site with their cheapest Linux package suggested most likely the person didn't get access to my personal computer but only my web site files on Godaddy's servers. I'm not very knowledgeable on web site programming let alone web site security. I asked Godaddy.com how could this happen. They said the person must have gotten my password. I heard something about protected directories but don't know how to implement those or what that means to me and my access to them. Godaddy has a control panel but I didn't see any option to protect my directories. Which I don't know about directories much for web sites except I use an image directory.

How can I prevent this from happening again such as by protecting the directories or some other method or changing web hosters?

Ryan
