Change domain to a .com from .org.
Hello, I am building a website and have a domain name ,My domain name is registered but my website is not up and running yet. When I applied for my domain name I was not aware that .org is for non-profit and .com is commercial. My website will be small business, Is there some way to change my domain from .org to .com? Thanks.

domainname.org and domainname.com are two separate and distinct domains.

If you have the .org domain, and the .com domain is available, you can purchase it and register it. If the .com domain is not available, you are out of luck unless you can purchase it from the existing domain holder.

.org is not strictly for non-profit organisations, and certainly there is nothing legally preventing you from using it.

Mainly it's about how customers perceive it and how easy it is to remember.

That said, akajohndoe's comments are correct; if you wish to switch to .com you must separately purhcase the name. You may also have both domain names pointing to the same site, if you wish, although each domain name will have its own renewal fee.
