Web Hosting Questions
I'm doing a redesign of my website and decided that my current host offers much more than I need, so I'm looking for a new host which offers less, but also at a low (or preferably free) price. I need PHP, MySQL and 1 catch-all mail forwarder. The files on my local machine are 714KB so disk space shouldn't be an issue. The most bandwidth I've used was about 20MB/mo so this is another non-issue. I've found a prospective host, but am waiting to hear back from an email I send yesterday. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with Whip an Orbit for your hosting needs. Also if you have any other recommendations, please post them.

I am also going to try a new setup with my domain and hosting. Up until now, I've hosted my domain with my web host, but I'm going to host the domain with GoDaddy because I'm tired of transferring it each time I move hosts. My question is this: how do I get the domain to point to my site on my web host's servers?

Thanks for your help!

You will need to have a DNS you can use to update your site's IP address as you change hosting providers. I don't know if GoDaddy offers DNS services or not. If they do, make sure you sign-up for their DNS service when you transfer your domain to them. If they do not, you'll either have to use the DNS provided by the new hosting provider or use a third party DNS service, like EasyDNS.

Peace...

1and1.com is a cheap and decent site for smaller sites.

When you pick your web hosting company they will provide you the DNS codes to enter on godaddy and it will take like 24-48 hours to take affect. That is how my sites are setup and its easy to do.
