What Font am I seeing ?
Hello and thanks in advance.

I have made a few websites, and I know about using CSS to set the fonts that you want:

font-family {
Verdana, Helvetica, Arial, sans serif;
}

But someone asked me a question I could not answer:

"When am I looking at a web page, how can I tell what font I am seeing in my browser?"

Any ideas about this question will be deeply appreciated!

That would depend on what the user/visitor has installed on their computer, if Verdana is missing then they would view Helvetica..and so on, unless of course the font is embedded

Thanks, techychick.

But how can I answer the person's question:

"What font am I seeing ( right now ) when I am looking at this specific web page? ..."

In other words:
Suppose you see a font on a web page that you like the looks of: how do you tell if this font is Bembo, Verdana, or Arial, or something else?

Thanks again,

RB

View the source code for the site (you may have to look for the css link), the first font mentioned is the default font that would appear in the visitors browser

Alternatively, take a screen shot and adjust the image to just the part with the font, save it and upload it to http://www.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/ which should work it out for you. Especially useful for text which is in a graphic, so cant tell by looking at the html/css source.
