Solved: verticle menu
Is there a way to make a verticle menu bar without using images?

yes...

base it on a list, which'll give you something like this:
* menu 1
* menu 2
* menu 3

and volia, one vertical menu...
obviously you can style the list to however you want it to make it look menuey.
