Monitor Colors/Calibration of Graphic/Web Design
Hey guys I have two Acer AL1916W monitors and each looks slightly different than the other in terms of colors, contrasts/brightness ect. I've tried matching each monitor settings exactly but nothing has worked thus far. Also, I am using both monitors for graphic and web design and wanted to know the best calibration methods or color management methods I can use to make sure the colors I design on my PC match closely or exactly on other PCs. I've designed some sites that appear great on one pc, then darker on another, and actually better on a CRT Monitor.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Colour management is a real can of worms.

Everyone perceives colour differently and so adjust their monitor to suit themselves. So to get all your colours looking the same on everyone else's screen is impossible.

As to your monitors that is fairly easy in that you need a monitor calibration device such as a Spyder or Pantone Huey or any other hardware device. These will profile your monitor and set it to standard colours so that they will both display the same. LCD monitors (unless you buy the very expensive graphics ones for Eizo or similar) will never be as rich and colourful as a CRT due to the different technologies.

I suffered from similar problems when editing my digital photos and bought the Huey it was well worth the investment.

If you do web and graphic design for a living, you might want to invest in a Spyder monitor calibration tool.

Peace...
