Solved: DreamWeaver FTP access issue
I am having a ftp issue for a new site I am maintaining. (I did not set it up, etc)

1. I use DW on a regular basis to maintain sites for 4 different organizations, on three different servers so am used to setting up the site info.

Using DW site management, I set up the usual way, passive ftp, etc and could not access the server.. re-entered the login, PW... nada

Switched to CuteFtp and could (after 4 tries) access the server, copied all files to the appropriate folder.

OK, all seems well..

Nah!

Now neither CuteFTP nor DW (got it to see the server-at least I think I did) can see the actual files. It sees a folder with the appropriate name, but only 2 index files (index.htm and index.html)

As this site is hosted by the American Kennel Club, I have limited support. They sent me the FTP server url, and all files are there.

I am simply lost, and have no knowledge of where to go next!

Many thanks for any support/suggestions

Are you able to navigate around the server in CuteFTP to possible locate where the files might have gone?

Peace...

No, Not able to navigate outside of the club directory (the only thing that my login/PW gives me access to)

Using a browser (Firefox) I can go to the FTP site and log in and everything is there (using the same Login/PW. Theoretically if I go in one way and get things correct, going in another should have the same results.

The reall odd thing is that using CuteFT got me in "correctly" once-that is how I got all of the files /folders/etc into DW.

Thanks

So, if you point your browser at ftp://[FTP server address] and login with the same userid/password you use when you login with CuteFTP, you see the files?

EDIT: Have you tried using the command line FTP client that comes with Windows? Try that to see if it behaves like CuteFTP or your browser.

Peace..

CuteFTP and Dream Weaver get me to a driectory with the same name, but no appropriate files

Ok, then try the command line FTP client that comes with Mac OS X. Open a terminal window and run the command line FTP client like this:

$ ftp [domain.com]

Login as you normally do and use the "dir" command to get directory listings on the remote server. Use the "cd" command to change directories, etc. When you're done, use the "bye" command to terminate the session.

By specifying "ftp://" in the browser, it *should* be connecting to the same FTP server that CuteFTP connects to. Why you're getting different results, I'm not sure. Try the command line FTP client and see how it behaves.

Peace...

Thanks,
Your email made me THINK.. Found that there was a higher level I had access to... and the files were there-had tried early on and CuteFTP was not cooperating. I then went into DreamWeaver and changed the directory name to / and EURIKA - all was there. It would have helped if I had either good information from the past webmaster or tech support from the web hosting entity.

Apologies for the delay in reponding-have a litter of puppies that require care as well.

Great! Glad you got that figured out. That's partly why I suggested using the command line FTP to just "look" at the server's filesystem layout and see if you could then determine where the files actually went vs where they were supposed to go.

Peace...
