Smile Need a dedicated linux managed server recommendation
Hi everyone,

I'm having the typical "outgrowing my stupid, incompetent, unreliable shared web host" growing pains that so many people have gone through. I need to find a reliable company that offers Linux managed dedicated servers at a decent price that I really won't have to worry about things like server errors, php memory issues, the host turning off the account for no reason..... etc etc etc.

I've scoured the cess pool of google's results to my query on reviews.. only after several hours of researching have I discovered that the vast majority of the reviews out there are several years old.

Ever heard Bill Cosby's skit where he quotes Carol Burnett's analogy of labor pains? Take your bottom lip and pull it over your head. Yes... that's where I'm at today!!!

/rant

Is anyone using a dedicated server host that they have confidence in? I'd really appreciate any guidance that anyone here might have.

I use IX web hosting, and apart from their servers being slow at times, I've never had any problems with them. Their support people are very helpful and the pricing is the best I've found on the net.

I use RapidVPS who are very good. Their support team are ace, and reply within seconds - and they let you do it how you want, and rarley interfere.

Rapid. One comes in at $9.95 per month, and webmin, however if you want cPanel and WHM Rapid. Two starts at $29.95 + $15.00 a month for the cPanel license.

If its just for you, go with Rapid. One

You're not limited to the disk space they quote either, you can add and remove disk space in their control panel, at $1/1gb per month (i think).

Although they list it as "unlimited" - i've never believed in that. Webhosts cannot give "unlimited" anything, as they are limited themselves as to what they have. It's the same as ISPs, when they offer "unlimited" they're actually offered something they don't have (as such) as they are limited themselves (whether they buy extra to accomodate or not).

Regards,
A....

EDIT; When i refer to "unlimited" i mean disk space and/or bandwidth

That's true, but the reality is that unless you're hosting a lot of very big files, or have more traffic than some of the big commercial sites, you're not going to reach that limit and you don't have to worry about topping up your account with extra space.

What are your bandwidth and disk space requirements? What is your monthly budget?

Peace...
