How Can I Somewhat Mimic This Site's Design?
I've searched far and wide for the answer to this question. It's been driving me insane since March.

What kind of forum/message board is this site?

Is there a way I can simply download this kind of forum to host on my own site, or can someone tell me how I can work it so that I can have a site like it?

I like that the titles of the threads are listed that way, and the navigation bars to the left and up top. The only qualm I have with it, however, is the way the comments are all squished together and difficult to differentiate.

If anyone could help me with this I would feel extremely indebted to you.

I don't exactly love it either, but I have my own site and half the people on it used to be there and complain that after that, PHPBB is too complicated.

I wish I could figure out how to find a happy medium.

Your users will get used to it. PHPbb is not difficult. I second what MMJ said.

It's a completely custom site from what I can see, you would have to re-write it by hand unless you can get the guy to send you the source code, which probably won't happen.
It will take a lot of work to create a forum from scratch. Unless you know some server side language like PHP or ASP really well it'll be even more difficult.

Ah, great point. Maybe when I take my classes I'll be able to design a new kind of forum that's easier and more agreeable to the eyes than that one.

And yeah, that place started up in... 1999?

You'd have to copy it pretty much exactly the same to violate any kind of copyright. Most websites take many things from other websites.

... the main reason for a lawsuit would be to keep the site from spreading
