I need few tips, Making a website
Hello. I am trying to make website about the journal we are starting. The journal will be publishing latest researches regarding health and medicine.

We cannot afford to hire professional services yet, so i have to come up with something.

So far i have a domain name .com and officelive as my host.

I am thinking about using a content management system to publish all the issues of the journal and index all the things in the articles.

To achieve this i will be using:

Client side scripting: Frontpage

Content management: Typo3 or any other content management software

Questions no.1: Is my approach correct?

Question no.2: Will i be needing a database program as well?

Any type of advise or suggestion or a comment will be very helpful.

Thanks.

First off, there are literally hundreds of free CMS's out there, and each one is slightly different. I suggest taking a look at http://opensourcecms.com/ . use the tree menu on the side to expand the portal(CMS) section and browse through some. Personally, I think Joomla is one of the more feature rich, yet easy to use CMS's. I also really like Drupal. I think Drupal is a little easier to program new content types and I really like the book feature (which if you are using your site to publish a journal it would probably work well). now to actually answer your quetions:
1. Clientside scripting: i am assuming you mean wysiwyg editor and not javascript. I personally like dreamweaver. Frontpage tends to put strange and unnecessary code in the html. That being said, if you use a system like Drupal or Joomla, and most other CMS's you will not need a good editor, since all the copy will upload via the browser.
2. Most CMS's use databases. Although there are a few that don't. Check out the lite section of opensourcecms.com . That being said, most host's will provide at least one MySQL database for free, and the CMS that use databases tend to be more developed.

I was faced with this decision a while back and I picked e-107, it worked alright, but I have since moved to Joomla and now I am working on a Drupal site. They all have their advantages and disadvantages. The nice thing about that site is that you can test the different CMS's out before install.

Cheers-

Thanks. Drupal looks more easier than joomla. and more powerful. Thanks for sharing your experience with me.

I have one more question: How may i add the search feature or insert a directory feature which will allow users to reach or guide them to what they want.

There is a medical directory system based on words Mesh http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medical_Subject_Headings

Is there any way i can incorporate this in my website. Thanks.

drupal has a taxonomy system. I am actually not familiar with it since I tend to not utilize that part. If there is not a search feature built into the CMS then I expect there is a module for it. I actually tend to write my own nodes with my own search functions, but I am sure there are modules that can do that. go to http://drupal.org/handbooks for help with drupal and http://drupal.org/project/Modules to browse the third party modules. There are more modules for drupal 5, but I suggest going with 6 due to the fact its newer and will be supported better in the long run. Plus most of the mature third party modules have been released for 6 or will be released shortly. If you need specific help with drupal their forums are very helpful.

oh and as far as the Medical Subject Headings, I would search online for modules that specifically deal with that. I did find this http://drupal.org/node/140277 . although its not helpful it appears there are others that are doing it. this is a good place to start learning about the taxonomy system http://drupal.org/handbook/modules/taxonomy
