Web Based Security System
Not sure if I should post this here, but I'm trying to setup a web based system with a webcam. What I'm wanting to do is use my web cam as a security cam, but instead of using the motion detection software that came with it, I want to somehow have the cam take snapshots either every few seconds or upon motion detection and upload them to a web server.

I can either host the webserver here or use a free service if possible and after say a week automatically delete the images.

I've heard or read about something like this before somehow if I remember right they embedded the cam in a web page and set it up to do exactly what I'm trying to do, but I can't find it for the life of me.

Links, info/advice greatly appreciated

Microsoft has an XP PowerToy called Webcam Timer Shot.

This is basically the same concept as the motion detection software that comes with my cam, but thanks for the info and link I didn't know about this and it will definitely come in use along with a few other PowerToys I saw on there.

Really would love to find a way to embed my webcam into my own webserver or one of a free service and have it save images at set intervals.

I guess I don't understand what your problem is. You should be able to setup the PowerToy to take images at set intervals and upload them to anywhere.

Yes, I haven't messed with that tool yet, but it does look like it will be very useful and work for what I'm wanting in a way. This here is more of what im wanting only I want to set it to somehow save images or take snapshots every 5 seconds or so and save them to a directory directly on the webserver.

Also It would be nice that way because I could connect to it and view it from any location.

Then connect the webcam directly to your webserver.

Okay I finally got this setup working one way using windows media encoder, but I'm not sure how exactly to connect it to my webserver. Even this link here using this html code saving the file as index.html using IIS it doesn't display anything.
