Problem opening hyperlinks
Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help me?

I have a website with with a hyperlink calling file:///c:\another.doc

In frontpage this works fine when viewing live mode, or if I open an explorer with c:\inetpub\wwwroot\project\default.html; clicking the link opens the file no problem.

However, if I try http:\\localhost\project\default.html then

- clicking the hyperlink does nothing
- right clicking and trying 'open' does nothing as does 'open new tab'.
- right clicking and printing or saving the file both work fine however!!

I can find no relevant explorer settings unless I am missing something.
File associations via windows explorer look fine.
Replacing the 'open' string with the 'print' string in file types still doesnt work.

I am baffled but suspect there is a simple answer some genius could help me with!

I would be grateful for any advice.....

yes this works because its pointing at your C: drive
Quote:
file:///c:\another.doc
you need to put the file onto your webhosting and then just point to that
if you put into the same directory as you have the webpage then , the link with just

<a href="another.doc">This is your file</a>

should work

Thank you - you are right! Versions of IE beyond 6 and xp sp2 dont allow any access of non-intranet filesystems from explorer.... unless you disable that feature in the registry.

If anyone else wants to know how to do this (I havent dared!) look at

Thank you Tech Guy!
