Having proxy problems on my website
Hi,

I had trouble with my previous browser (Internet explorer) it wasnt working whatsoever so I installed Mozilla Firefox which I have been using now for the best part of a year. However, since I have been using Firefox I am now having problems uploading images to my website. I contacted the Website tech team and they told me it was to do with the proxy settings on my new browser or possibly my ISP. My proxy settings are turned off.

Can anybody help?

Kind regards,

Lucy

How exactly are you uploading files to your website using Firefox? Do you have an FTP plugin? Are you using a web-based control panel? Etc.

Hi,

I am not a technical computer whizz so bear with me with my novice answers

I am using moonfruit/sitemaker to build websites which enables me to upload my images through the package template that I own?

All i know is that it stopped working as soon as I had changed browsers to Firefox. The tech team at sitemaker told me to check where I have a proxy configured that goes through to them - through my browser, my wireless network or my ISP. Or contact my ISP to find out if they proxy my outbound traffic?

As you can see, this doesnt make much sense to me having not much technical experience so wondered if I could find any help on here

Thanks for your reply

Kind regards

Lucy

Do you know what is wrong specifically when uploading images? Does it display an error message? Does it just sit there and "hang"?

You might want to try to download and install Google Chrome and test uploading images to see if the problem is indeed Firefox or something else.

Hi, the error message says to contact technical support quoting error -1, which I have done yet none of their advice has helped which has brought me to this site to see if anyone else has any solutions?

I have just installed google chrome and it wont work/wont bring any sites up? So have gone back to using my firefox.

Don't understand what the problem is..its so annoying!!

Thanks for your suggestion, much appreciated

Kind regards,

Lucy

What do your proxy settings look like?

If Google Chrome won't load any websites, then something is different in the network configuration between Firefox and Chrome, most likely the proxy configuration.

I'm going to have you visit a website to test whether you could be using a proxy or not. Go here: http://whatismyipaddress.com/
After the map it will say "IP Address Location: ...." Is this location close to (within 50 miles of) your actual location? If it's not, especially if it's way off (in another state or country) you're probably using a proxy, whether you know it or not.

How do you connect to the internet? Do you have fiber, cable, DSL, or dial-up?
Is your computer connected to a router or directly to the modem?

I doubt your router or your ISP is proxying your traffic, which leaves something configured on your system, or another cause altogether.

If your proxy settings are indeed off and the test shows you're not using a proxy, you'll probably need to go back to the company and get more technical details about the error.
