Here's a quick one for you... Is there a way to select an item from an HTML drop down menu via javascript?

Here's the story, I have a menu which allows the user to 'narrow down' a potentially very long list of items by selecting various sub categories or groups. I would also like to allow them to pick an individual item, so have included a text input box next to the menu. In the 'onchange' event of this input field I'd like to set the menu selection back to 'Please Select...' for example. Can this be done?
