Solved: Images displaying in FF but not IE
Hi All,

Just came across an issue where by certain images on my website won't show in IE (any version according to the browser compatibility tester) The show images option is on etc the only thing I noticed is when I check the image properties it says 'Type: Not Available'.

I've only just recently stumbled across this problem (I use FF, damn me for not testing!) Does anybody know of a solution to this - seems strange that it is only certain images being affected.

Here is an example url where this occurs;

Cheers,

Marc

The images are saved as cmyk not rgb images and as a result IE will not display them even thought FF does. Convert your images to rgb and they will display fine in IE.

I tried re-saving the image in photoshop to see if that worked and I noticed I only got a few options in regards to filetypes to save as. So what you say sounds like it fits - would the change to RGB take place in photoshop or is there an online tool that performs this change?

In photoshop open the image and then go to image>mode and change to rgb and that's it. Re-save the image and you are done.

you can also export the image for web use from photoshop and then save it in any format.
file > save for web & devices
and choose rgb from there as well

Tom,

It's a problem that has cropped up here before about a year ago that I found the fix for. Images saved with CMYK are usually used for high spec printing and the photo looked like an advertising shot to me. I downloaded the image and checked its colour space in Photoshop to confirm what I suspected and then posted the answer. The clue was the fact that FF displayed the jpg images properly and IE wouldn't display the images at all.
