Angry Solved: Can't Delete History Item from Explorer Address Bar
Hi,

I have an issue that is driving me crazy. No matter what I do there is one item that I cannot delete from my IE address bar (shows up via the auto-complete function). It doesn't show up in the history, just on the address bar. The item is a link to a youtube video. I'm running Vista 64bit. Based upon advice on this and other forums I have attempted all of the below and still can't get it to go away.

-Deleted the IE history (like 3000000 times)
-Searched hardrive for all URLs and looked for the item with no luck
-Ran regedit and looked for the item in the Internet Explorer reg folder (and also tried a FIND on the item with no luck)
-Deleted all history in my YouTube account
-Ran CC Cleaner
-Ran an antivirus scan with my antivirus software (BitDefender)
-Dowloaded and ran MalwareBytes Anti-Malware
-Upgraded from IE8 to IE9
-Deleted IE history in safe mode

I think thats it... Any help anyone could provided would be much appreciated. This started off as me being curious as to why I couldn't delete it and has progressed into a small obsession..... it's now me vs. this stupid link. If you think it would help, I can run HiJack This and post the report.

First time I've ever posted on a message board, but like I said I'm a bit obssesed at this point.

Thanks in advance,

J

Have you looked inside the following registry key?

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs

Have you been running CCleaner's registry cleaner option prior to noticing that URL?

Something found in the following link:

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/i...4-7e88f706f8db

Quote:
It's the Windows Search Index, that's the culprit:
Here's THE solution gentle folks:
Go to Control Panel -> Control Panel Home (NOT the Classic View) -> System and Maintenance -> Indexing Options
As you can see Internet Explorer History is automatically indexed and can NOT be removed from Windows Search Indexing (i.e. storing ALL entries).
But, we can flush out the entries by clicking on Advanced and then Rebuild.
Once you click on Rebuild and re-open IE8, ALL the previous pesky History entries in the address bar are GONER forever!!
Send your donations for wasted time, yours and mine
Also, Internet Options > Content > AutoComplete > Uncheck Use Windows Search for better results.
