how to remove spam and deleted emails from the hotmail junk mail box?
How do i completely remove all junk mail from the hotmail "junk mail box"?
I've just had an AVG warning that 1. my junk mail is taking up too much space, and 2. that some sort of "de-fragging" is taking place or requires attention.

Hotmail is a web-based e-mail service. Log in to your account and delete it. If you're using local e-mail client software on your computer and you've already downloaded all the junk, you'll have to delete it from whatever folder it's in in that client software.

You tried what? Deleting from a client? What client? Deleting from the web? What happened? Did you get an error? What error?

In any case, Hotmail empties those folders and deletes the old mails from time to time so it is not really necessary to do it manually.

If you're using the Hotmail web interface, then you're not using an e-mail client.

As Elvandil said, the junk mail folder will empty itself. There's nothing you can do to prevent the account from receiving junk. Your local antivirus and security software have nothing at all to do with your Hotmail account. Everything is processed on Hotmail's servers.

Thank you all for the information. Bit by bit some things are becoming clearer.
I think my computer or W7 is a bit iffy, although they are new, i'll post in another more appropriate forum.
