| Spam being sent to Outlook contacts through Sympatico Hello gurus! I know this is a common subject, but I thought I'd better be safe than sorry, so here goes: I use Outlook for my email client and Sympatico is my provider. About a month ago, I think I may have clicked on something bad because suddenly all of my Outlook contacts are receiving spam from me. I ran a Hijack This log just in case this helps. I'm thinking that some sort of wormy thing got into my email. I did run an Avast scan, but no viruses showed up. Could someone take a peek at the log below and let me know what I should do? Thanks so much! | Wow, that was quick! Thanks, Phantom010! Should I also delete all of my contacts in Outlook so it can't do it anymore, or is it too late? I can see how the spammer may have gotten my email address, but not all of my contacts' addresses too. Or perhaps I should just close that email account and open another one? I already use "disposable" email addresses for subscriptions and junk mail, and this one is only for professional/personal use. That's why I don't know how all of my contacts in Outlook have been affected. Oh well, live and learn! Thanks so much. Marjatta |

| Some viruses & worms spread by emailing themselves to all the email addresses they can find in the email address book. As some people forward jokes and other material by email to their friends, putting their friends' email addresses on either the To: or Cc: fields, rather than the BCc: field, some viruses and worms scan the mail folders for email addresses that are not in the address book, in hope to hit addresses of the computer owner's friends... Do run a complete antivirus scan of your system, including email messages. If the spam messages aren't stopping, you might have to change your account.
