I have an email account on an Exchange server and I know the server name, the account name, the domain and the password.

On my iPhone I just told it that information and it got at all my emails. On my android tablet I can use the email app with a user name od domain\username and I can get at the email. No matter what I try I just CAN'T get at it using any windows method!

I've tried using Outlook but it complains that it can't set up the account probperly because it's not connected and I don't *think* I want to use Outlook Anywhere because I'm not trying to do this over HTML.

I've tried using Thunderbird according to what I've read on the web and I've tried using Gmail, all to no effect. I've tried downloading several alternative email programs all to no avail. It simply keeps telling me that the server didn't respond in time. It's using SSL, which has been specified in all cases.

How can it be so simple of iOS and Android to manage this and so totally impossible for Microsoft to access its own systems?

I assume tha no-one else has the faintest idea either!

As far as I can make out Windows email programs are all designed to work with POP3 or IMAP for email and nothing will work remotely with MAPI directly (or at least nothing I've found). There are some applications that will work with OWA (i.e. accessing MAPI type functions through a web interface) but that requires the server to be supporting this.

It seems that iOS and Android (and I suspect, linux) all support MAPI synchronisation but nothing on the Windoze platform!
