However,

Browse to:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc

Click on hosts.

Choose Notepad from the list of programs to open the file with.

Copy the content and paste it into your next reply.

Hosts file content:

127.0.0.1 localhost

Somehow it seems to have solved itself. I can now access the google page even though everything is set to default (e.g. the browser background).

Would you be able to let me know if the HijackThislog looks ok? I believe I had a trojan/root kit problem which I think I solved but I am not sure. I was not sure if the problems I was having were related to this.

Thanks for all your help. :>

Do you have any idea what blekkotb might be? In your HijackThis log, it refers as being an anti-phishing application...

Thanks for you help and prompt response. I tried to decode the log myself but found it difficult to understand.

When I was searching through the installed programs on my computer, I found some by a company called Visicom Media Inc. I thought I had uninstalled the program, which I believe was call blekkotb. I thought that would have removed it. I don't ever remember installing such a program but I cannot be sure it did not come as part of another anti virus/malware program I installed.

Visicom Media Inc. is indeed related.

I cannot see anything suspicious in your log. Then again, when malware is concerned, HijackThis doesn't show much. The program is outdated and most infections nowadays aren't going to show in HijackThis.

Is there a better way for me to check? A better program that might be able to identify any problems?

If you wish to make sure your computer isn't infected anymore, you should start a new thread in the Malware Removal forum. An expert in there will have you run specific and powerful tools.
