Solved: Computer Very Slow esp. in the morning
Hello, I hope I am in the right forum.

My 2005 Toshiba Laptop is very slow. While I realize it is low in memory, I am wondering if that is the "sole" reason it is very slow.

Is there such a thing as a FREE DIAGNOSTIC that will not charge you and at the same time, clean your computer?

I went to SPEEDMAXPC.COM and downloaded it, only to find out I had about 1800 problems that needed fixing, and they want $39 to fix it. Waaa?

First, I belong to the vast majority of people who don't have that kind of money, second, whatever happened to the concept/notion of public service/good samaritan?

Thank you.

Right-click MY COMPUTER, then click Properties.

Advise us what's listed in the

System:

Computer:

sections in the "General" tab - exactly as you see it there.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Avoid using cleaner/booster/optimizer/speedup/tuneup type utilities, no matter what they claim they can do.

The end result of using them can be a damaged Windows operating system, broken programs, unexpected error/warning messages, and overall havoc.

The purpose of SpeedMaxPC advising you that your computer has 1,800 "problems" is to scare you into buying it.

Windows XP has been upgraded to SP3.

The Intel Pentium IV 3.06 GHz processor is running at its full rated speed.

There's only 768 MB of RAM.
It's showing 704 MB because the other 64 MB is dedicated to the laptop's integrated graphics.

In order to determine how much RAM that laptop supports, we need to know it's complete model number.
It should be 2 sets of numbers and letters separated by a dash( - ).

Go here and click the green "Download latest version" link to download and save HiJackThis 2.0.4

After it's been downloaded and saved, close all open windows first, then double-click the saved file to install it.

Allow it to install in its default location - C:\Program Files.

After it's been installed, start it and allow its main window to load.

Uncheck "Do not show this window when I start HiJackThis".

Click "Do a system scan and save a log file".

When the scan is finished in 30 - 60 seconds, a log file will appear.

Save that log file.

Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the ENTIRE log file here.

Computer Slow
Thank you again.

It is 76477-OEM-0011903-00111

I do realize I need more memory, just don't know where to go and get it.

I had my computer serviced at BestBuy 3 years ago and they charged me a lot just to clean the computer.

Then after that I took it to computer mart near my house, they didn't charge as much but maybe they stole some memory cuz my computer went slower even after they serviced it. hehehehe. Just a hunch, or just maybe my imagination.

The computer works fine for most of the day, but very slow in the morning, freezes and I have to shut off and on maybe 3-4x before it gets going, usually about 10+ minutes.

Thank you again.

That's the Original Equipment Manufacturer(OEM) number and not the laptop's model number.

----------------------------------------------------------

Go here and allow the Crucial System Scanner to load and run.

After it's finished and it displays a report, copy-and-paste the link to that report here so I can go there and view it.

Thank you but I can't go on anymore.

First, I went to the HijackThis and downloaded it, but then, isn't downloading the same as installing?

Second, I scanned, but taking almost 3 hours to scan and not even finished yet and stalls at 80% and freezing, so I aborted.

I sincerely appreciate all your help but I am a hopeless computer moron and find this all difficult to do. Thank you ever so much.

Downloading and installing are NOT the same.

You download a file from a site on the internet and save it in your computer, then you install it.

The instructions in post #5 are very simple to follow.

If you have that much difficulty in downloading and installing programs and with providing logs, you really need some "hands on" help by a computer-knowledgeable family member or friend.
