Dear Babylon,

This site, as well as many others on the Web, receive a lot of complaints from people trying to remove Babylon from their computers. Babylon is considered as a potentially unwanted application (PUP), a type of malware. It has a poor reputation.

You could improve your reputation by making the software easily removable, not making it as intrusive, and by posting the complete instructions on how to uninstall it right here on the forum.

Quote:
Babylon toolbar, a browser plugin for Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome, is installed with various ad-supported software packages on an opt-out basis. This toolbar overrides default browser settings, does not provide an option to automatically revert to previous settings and is infamous for the complicated uninstallation process. This behaviour qualifies the software as malware in many users opinions.

Despite these awards, literally millions of normal PC users around the world consider the software to be a form of malware, because it intrusively and secretively inserts itself into your PC or Mac, automatically (ie, without permission) changes the home pages on Firefox, Chrome, and Internet Explorer to its own search page, makes removal exceptionally difficult, if not impossible, for the average PC user, with millions of complaints registered through Google searches, as of August 23, 2012. Any potential benefit of the software or the plug-ins should possibly be weighed against these limitations, independent of any awards it has allegedly earned.

Unfortunately, those standard methods of uninstalling the software are not enough for many users. There are often a lot of registry leftovers that are very difficult to find and remove. Programs like Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware need to be used to complete the process, but are not always successful.

Considering millions of people are having trouble removing Babylon from their computers, I would consider that an understatement.

purple0000,

If you ever decide to come back, you can also use SUPERAntiSpyware, which removes the Babylon toolbar, or at least part of it...

I find Revo Uninstaller (Free version) can get rid of problemmatic software.

Runs the standard Windows Uninstaller.
Scans for any files left on the Hard Drive.
Scans registry for any files related to the program.

Asks if you want to delete files on hard drive and registry.

As a warning if you do this for something like Steam Client for games, it will delete all your games from your hard drive since all games are stored inside the Steam folder.

This program mainly used for when the Windows Uninstaller fails to run. Worked great for getting rid of Norton Antivirus for me.

This is different. Babylon is a PUP, a form of malware. It's very difficult to remove with uninstallers.

That being said, Revo is a very thorough uninstaller, but to be used when the standard uninstallers aren't working properly.

As for Norton, the most recommended tool on TSG and on Norton forums is the Norton Removal Tool. It's the only tool that will really work.

Well, tell that to SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Spybot developers, and the very large number of people who never even wanted Babylon on their computers but are stuck with it, and ask them what they think about it. Not us.

And a lovely day to you too!

BabylonLTD,

This forum in general and this thread in particular is about helping people solve problems, here: uninstalling your product without harmful residues remaining.

I've consequently deleted all your posts as they can easily be read as pushing your product and, seeing that it's the source of problem, methods offered here seem far more conducive towards any solution than delving further into the original problem source.

Also please note that under certain circumstances your posts could be considered simply as advertising/spam. It would therefore be wise to desist from further interfering in this manner with other members' suggestions of help, lest you be afforded spammer treatment. Something I'll rather currently err upon on the side of caution.

Until shown otherwise.

Thank you.
