I don't have Chrome installed to look, but I would think it would be under Appearance.

Under appearance I would imagine it's 'Show Home Button' so I checked that, there was no change. I unchecked it, no change. Seems the 'Show Home Button' doesn't actually DO anything. If you can't help do you know anyone at TSG who can ? No offence meant whatsoever.
The reason I ask that is you said you don't have Google Chrome installed.

Pick the page you'd like to be your home page in the "Home page" section. You can select to use the New Tab page as your home page. To use another page, click Change once you've selected "Show Home button" checkbox.

Set Google as your Home page.

I don't see any section which says 'Home Page.' In Settings, that is.

I tried to do as you said but I really don't understand the wording. For example, HOW do I 'pick the page?' I'm not looking to pick a page if I understand what you mean, I'm merely looking to have the Google Chrome icon visible on the Google Chrome homepage so that all I need to do from there to get to Google is to click the (Google Chrome) icon and thus go straight to Google. The icon at the moment is missing. But I have added YouTube and Chrome Webstore was already there.

No offense taken.
I've worked on it before so I'm somewhat familiar with it, but the new version has a few minor differences in what things are named so you might have to bear with me a bit.

OK, I'll have another look for it but I couldn't see it last night. When you say 'Google Search' do you mean what I'm looking for ? That is, the Google Chrome icon.

The Google button that's missing is almost certainly the "Hompage" button. Clicking it takes you right to the Homepage , which is usually set to Google.

Go back into Settings and check the Show homepage button, then restart Chrome. Sometimes changes won't appear until you restart it.

I'm taking a guess because you've shot down everyone else's suggestions. You cannot launch Google Chrome from within Google Chrome. Google Chrome is a web browser. Google.com is a website. Google is the name of a search engine and the name of a company.

the Google Search web app will put a link to www.google.com on your Apps page of Google Chrome.

Went to the Chrome Webstore and from 'Home' scrolled down couldn't see the Google Chrome icon anywhere. Where is it ?

Listen, I haven't 'shot down' anyone. I think I'm showing remarkable patience for something which should be very simple I would have thought. Also, you haven't been reading my posts properly. I'm not trying to launch Google Chrome from within Google Chrome. Where did I say I wanted to do that ?
I go to 'Start' I then click on 'Internet-Google Chrome' this takes me to (obviously) Google Chrome. From there I used to be able to click on the Google Chrome icon which would then lead directly to Google. I'm now looking for that icon which enabled me to do that.
