[Robert the Bruce]

I downloaded an application/program to-day and with it came something called 'searchnu.com/406.' It appears when I click on Google Chrome via Start. Google Chrome should be there when I click on that (i.e. the Google Chrome icon) but instead this appears. I uninstalled it using Add & remove Programs, rebooted, deleted residue(?) folder in 'Program Files' but it's STILL there. Somebody please help.

Download and install the Revo Uninstaller (Freeware) from here.

Run Revo Uninstaller and select the program to remove (one at a time), and click the Uninstall icon.


Now, select: Advanced


Click Next, and follow the prompts.


Click Select All, and Delete to remove all Registry items, folders and files listed by Revo.

If asked to restart the computer, then, do so.

I already have Rivo installed. searchnu.com is not there.
Also I don't see 'Advanced' anywhere.

Download and save and then install the free version of

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.62.0.1300

SUPERAntiSpyware 5.5.0.1012

Make sure to update their definition files during the install process.

Make sure to uncheck and decline to install any extras, such as toolbars and homepages, they may offer.

After they're installed and updated, restart the computer.

Run a quick scan with each one.

After each quick scan is finished, select and remove EVERYTHING that was found.

I already have Malwarebytes installed but not SuperAnti-Spyware. Will Spyare Search & Destroy or/and Spyware Blaster do ? I will run scans but it won't work. Your solution bears no resemblance to what I've read so far on the Internet. Are you just guessing ? No offence meant, honestly.

Something only Trusted Advisors and Malware Removal Experts are allowed to do.

I'm not a fan of Spybot - Search & Destroy, and it's known to be problematic.

I've never used SpywareBlaster, but some long-time members here use and recommend it.

I only recommend what I personally use and have had success with here.

This video doesn't make any sense to me because after I click on wrench I see something different to what is on the video.

OK, I ran scans with Malwarebytes, Spybot Search & Destroy, Spyware Blaster and Comodo. Malwarebytes picked up one item called 'pup/install/bundle' or words to that effect. I deleted it. Re-installed Google Chrome.
Guess what.........yes you've guessed it. No change.
searchnu is still my 'default' browser.
What now ?
I wish I could make out what browser is in that video. It isn't Google Chrome or IE as far as I can see.
Also, I don't know how to submit a hi-jack log.

Please download AdwCleaner. (there's only a french version available that I know of)


Save the program to your desktop.

Run it. (It doesn't need to be installed)

Do not click on Suppression.


Click on Recherche (Search) and wait for the short scan:



When the scan ends, a report will open in a Notepad window.

Note: This report is also saved to C:\AdwCleaner[R1].txt

Click inside the Notepad window.

Press CTRL+A on your keyboard to select the whole content.

Press CTRL+C to copy the content.

In your next reply here, press CTRL+V to paste the report.

Close AdwCleaner.

Do not click on Suppression.

You didn't answer my question in post #7, so I'll provide the steps.

Go here and click the green "Download latest version" link to download and save

HiJackThis 2.0.4

After it's been downloaded and saved, close all open windows first, then double-click the saved file to install it.

Allow it to install in its default location - C:\Program Files.

After it's been installed, start it and allow its main window to load.

Uncheck "Do not show this window when I start HiJackThis".

Click "Do a system scan and save a log file".

When the scan is finished in 30 - 60 seconds, a log file will appear.

Save that log file.

Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the ENTIRE log file here.

Could you please post a step-by-step written/typed guide on what is in the video. I can only get as far as the first step, the wrench, and then things are different on my computer. I don't see the next step i.e. 'basics.'
