could be a number of reasons
1) router/modem firmware upgrade my help
2) sometimes hardcoding the dns servers can help - certainly did for me.
3) phone line problems
4) the isp logs you off due to inactivity

can you post details of ISP, all hardware and configuration you have to connect to internet.

no spyware, i know that.

computer was recently reformatted, and locked down with DeepFreeze (no changes allowed to the computer ... resets to configuration after every reboot).

its hard to call the cable company, as it does it at varying times in the evening. grrr

me too!
Hello everyone:

I don't mean to steal the thread, but I too, have the same issue.
My cable modem would resets itself everyday around 9:30 to 10:00 pm. Sometimes, the modem appears to be normal (judging by the green LEDs), except no signal can go through. A quick release/renew IP usually solves the problem... except this modem behavior is really annoying (if I were a dedicated on-line gamer, I'd be very pissed )
The service tech came to my place, checked the line , replaced the modem; nothing seems to help.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

My ISP: Cox, Toshiba PCX2600 modem connects to Microsoft MN700 router...

Thanks and Happy Holidays

mine seems to have been solved by calling the tech and having the guy come out and check the lines ... apparently, lines was kinda old, rusty, etc .... dont seem to have been having any other problems ....

with yours, try plugging the cable modem directly into your computer and see if that is the problem ... try that for a week or so ...

could be something on the computer also? check for spyware/adware/viruses/etc ?

Similar question-- my internet resets itself, but usually when I'm downloading something or using an online program. This happened a couple of years ago and a tech guy that came to fix a different problem had me go into some setting and un-check a box. That worked, but I can't remember what the setting was. Any ideas?
