Solved: Cannot log into accounts
Hi,

For some reason after upgrading my dsl modem I cannot log into any of my email or bank accounts. I tried calling Verizon and they said it wasn't their problem and gave me the number to E-Machines. I called E-Machines and they said that since my computer wasn't under covered anymore they couldn't help me on the phone, I had to do it online. The only problem with that is I can't get onto the site because IE won't let me. I do not know which version on IE it is but I run on XP Home. When I try to log into an account it brings up a 'cannot find server' message and I have followed all the steps on there and none of them worked. I tried to re-install my aol, I had to get rid of it to install the new modem, but it says there was an error during set-up. Please help.

Well, I don't know what happened after I posted this message. My computer crashed and it gave me a blue screen and said it was dumping the memory to disk and a whole bunch of other stuff. I thought that it may have been a freak thing and when it restarted I was allowed to access my email for the first time in weeks. The only problem that I have is, it just did it again. The message states that there is a problem with windows and it needs to close. It gives me this - DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and at the bottom of the screen it says something about smtcpmon.sys. Should I be worried, it has never done this before.

Do you use the All-in-one Secret Maker application. I did a little searching for
smtcpmon.sys
and found it to be a driver used in Secret Maker. I also found that others had complaints about this driver crashing their system. The application may work OK by itself. But the scope of Secret Maker seems to overlap the scope of many other applications that a person may have installed on their PC, especially security and privacy applications.

As an experiment, try the following:

1. Disable the application COMPLETELY and restart. Operate like this for a little time, at least enough time to see if your system is going to crash, and see if your situation improves.

2. If your system is still crashing after trying #1, then try uninstalling Secret Maker and rebooting your system.

If either #1 or #2 fixes the problem, then it is most likely Secret Maker or a conflict between Secret Maker and another of your applications. The task will then be to find out which application is conflicting with Secret Maker.

Yes, I do run Secret Maker and have for quite a while, I do not know what it could be conflicting with. Hmmm....I'm going to have to think about this one. Could it be having a problem with my new modem? I know its a bit off the wall, but it is the only new thing I have put on my computer in the last couple of months. I will disable it for a bit though to see if that is the problem. Thanks for the advice!
