saving outlook express folders
Hi, Could anyone tell me if it is possible to save specific folders from oe to cd. I get a lot of IT messages every day and would like to save them to disc for future use, and to clear my mail box a bit. I also have music videos which were sent from a friend that I would also like to save but on reading into the websites they came from, one of them says you can not download videos to your computer but you can email them. On the link in oe for the videos from the other site you can 'save target as' in oe and I have put them on my desktop as an html document, but when I try to open them the main page of the website comes up with a message saying video is loading, but that's as far as it goes. Sorry if this is long winded and thanks for reading. Thanks in advance for any help offered.

Hi hedley

Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

Yes, you can save the .dbx files as backups. These would then need to be added back into Outlook Express to view the individual messages themselves.

If you would like to save the messages separately where you can pick and choose which message you want to view, you can drag the individual messages into a folder outside of Outlook Express. Naming is a factor since you cannot have two e-mail files with the same name outside of Outlook Express.
Or you can buy a program such as DBXpress:
http://www.oehelp.com/ which will extract the individual messages from the .dbx file all at once and it will name the e-mails in sequence to avoid file name duplication.

Post a link to the site containing the video, please.

You can use this to view your messages directly from the dbx files.

Edit:You can also save selected messages as eml files that will open in OE.

Sure, just select the link from the Address bar in your browser then paste it in your reply.
The Forum board "should" apply the tags for you, if not see below.

To get this: www.google.com
It is keyed or parsed by the board like this:
www.google.com

saving outlook express folders
Hi, Thanks for the help. I followed the process of the store folder under maintenance in oe, copied the folder name into the run box and in the ensuing box pasted the file. I then copied the file to cd rather than move it. This was done using the CD Writing Wizard in windows. I see you said the file had then to be pasted back into oe for the individual messages to open again, but my oe programme opens ok and I can open any email in it to read it. Perhaps copying rather than moving made this happen? EAFeidler, here is the link given in my email for a video from yahoo:
http://uk.music.yahoo.com/video/2156712/? The email from YouTube just gives me a link to 'watch video'. Hope this information is sufficent for you all. Thanks for your help in this.

Sorry, forgot; Rabgary, I went to download the programme you suggested but ie blocked it for security. Is it still safe to download it? Thanks.

Yes, if you copied the .dbx file, the original is still intact in Outlook Express.
You are creating Backups? If some day you should lose all your messages in Outlook Express, you would then copy your saved .dbx files back into the Store Folder for Outlook Express.

I just downloaded the dbxviewer, scanned it and started using it. So far it appears to work fine, thank you, rabgary
Interesting, it shows all the Identities I have created...don't know if that is a good thing or not.

About the video, sorry, we are unable to assist with downloading as it is contrary to Yahoo's copyright agreements and therefore against Tech Support Guy Forum Rules.

Thank you for understanding.

As for viewing the videos, the information here states to install Windows Media Player. Do you have a yahoo account?
