Solved: internet explorer loads pages slowly now
i currently have ie version 7, and i did update verizon plc check up software, and the philshing download from msn. i access online quickly but when i call up sites can take up to 30 seconds to load a page. using delll dimension E510 system, xp pro,
this is a pretty new system and delay seems to be in last couple weeks. i tried taking the music and photo option off advanced option on ie tools, didnt help, phishing or no phishing does not seem to help either, also put shorter phone cord on dsl box.
any ideas of what else is causing slow page opening? i do clean out cookies and temp files or a regular basis also
thank

Could be any number of things - you did the right thing by shortening the phone cable - the shorter the better. Longer ethernet cable is better than long phone cable.
Wireless is even better!

Do you have good anti-spyware? Anti-virus?

I would also check with your ISP....is it a new connection? Has it been poor only since you got your new computer?

ie slow loading
i have trend micro pc-cillin installed

this connection not new, got this system about a year ago thru dell

it seems that only maybe couple weeks ago started loading pages slowly
i did all the verizon updates also the phishing update from microsoft

with dsl, it can take up to a minute to load a page when i go to a site
yet when i open my msn home page that loads very quickly so i have to
assume the connect itself is fine and my outlook express seems to work ok also
the delay seems to be just in opening pages (even bookmarked ones) from the top http toolbar area? any other suggestions where i can check?

how do i check what speed my dsl is running at??
thanks

To check speed, go to 'control panel' click on 'network connection' then double click on your active connection....

The only other thing I can advise with my meagre knowledge is to adjust your security settings....go to 'internet options' click on 'security' and adjust the sliders - you may have the security level set too high.

Be careful though.

I would talk to your ISP too though.

Many ISP encounter troubles these days. I know for sure about Tiscali and also BT. When I open my Gmail webpage, I can see on the left side bar messages such as "we are sorry...we are encountering..." and then "we're back"...

I called verizon my IP and with them online fixed the email accounts and the IE settings also. one of my two email accounts was not showing up so we reset all of that.

Found out one of the problems, that before the last couple weeks, wasn't causing me troubles, but I guess was now it was. This was that the phone line had a splitter on it for dsl and telephone. She told me to pull the phone off the line, get a second jack put in so that the dsl and phone were each connected directly into separate jacks.
This jack is in a home office setting, so for a few days this space will just have the office line and not the home line up.
I set installation appt with them for this but in the interim, the net is running at normal speed again, as long as i dont connect the splitter.
