Internet not working on friend's computer
My friend (who recently moved to Florida) is trying to set up Comcast Cable internet. He has it all hooked up, and all the correct lights are lit on the modem. When he views the connection, however, no bytes are being received, only sent. He instantly gets the "Page Not Found" page when trying to load any website.

If he hooks the modem up to his roommate's laptop, the internet DOES work. So I am trying to figure out what is not set correctly on his computer. They are not using a router, due to only his desktop will be on the internet. Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong?

Thanks.

You might want to PM a moderator to request this moved to the Networking subforum which is busier & more relevent to your issue.

But I can suggest some basics...

Is it a modem or a router ? ( I suspect it is a router(built in modem) if it works 1st time with the laptop)

Check Internet settings:
open Internet Explorer,
Tools > Internet Options
Connections Tab > Lan Settings - tick Automatically detect settings
OK

Still not working ?

Open control panel - Open Network Connections
Right click Local Area Connection > Properties
Double-click Internet protocol(TCP/IP) - tick Obtain an IP address automatically AND Obtain DNS Server address automatically
OK - OK

Post back results.
