Solved: 2 Problems in IE7: homepage resets & R6025
I have XP SP2, and IE7. Other than SP3, I am current with updates. I am including both of my IE problems since I don't know it they are related.

PROBLEM #1: My homepage in IE7 keeps resetting to www.MSN.com. When I look in IE&'s Tools, the homepage reads "http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir.dll?prd=ie&clcid=0x409&pver=6.0&ar=home". I have changed the homepage approx. 30 times but I keep returning to www.MSN,com when I close and reopen IE7.
So far, I have tried resetting all my settings within IE7 to the default and beginning to reconfigure from scratch. I have also reinstalled IE7 and its current updates.
Spysweeper keeps reporting that there is an attempt to change my homepage and I keep selecting "restore." I have run Spysweeper and Norton antivirus and nothing is reported.

PROBLEM #2: I keep getting an error:
Runtime Error!
R6025
-pure virtual function call
Program: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE
If I click on OKAY, IE7 closes. As mentioned above, reinstalling IE7 hasn't helped.
Any ideas?

Have you tried scanning for viruses and spyware?

Peace...

Yes, I have. I've updated both Webroot's Spysweeper and Norton's Antivirus and scanned with them. Nothing found.

Since you've scanned with Norton antivirus, which is known to not be much good, I would start a thread in the malware forum and seek their help with making sure your system isn't infected with anything. The behavior you describe sounds a lot like a browser hijack of some kind but the folks in the malware forum would be able to advise you best on that.

Peace...

Well, the resolution was switching to Firefox. Seems that numerous people have had these issues. Couldn't find any resolutions. SO, I installed Firefox and I'm ignoring IE7. Not the solution I wanted, but it's working. Interesting: When I installed Firefox, it knew that I wanted www.news.google.com to be my homepage, and it set it there. Strange that IE7 couldn't get that straight.

A REAL Solution This Time!
This problem is now solved. I suspected malware, but none was found.

Source of Problem: The problem was that Norton Internet Security (NIS) was guarding what it thought should be my IE7 homepage. Thus, it wasn't allowing me to change it.

Steps to Resolve Problem: After I opened NIS , I selected "Options" at the top of the screen, then Norton Antivirus, then Home Page Protection (on the left side of the screen), and I could turn off the protection. Now, my IE7 homepage is set to MY choice and does not reset to www.msn.com.

Thank you to those who read and responded to this problem. I hope the solution helps someone else!
