Solved: Now that Windows Live Mail has "taken over" is there any need for Outlook Exp
Hi,

Windows XP Home SP3
Firefox 1.5
IE6
Verizon DSL

Since the advent of Windows Live Mail as my default mail handler, there is apparently no need for me to visit my now obsolete Outlook Express (since one or two of the email accounts, which are "free" according to the error popup, cannot be accessed anyway).

So, any reason I should keep it and not remove it from my system?
Could removing it do any potential harm or damage to Windows XP, IE or Live Mail itself?

I have had ALL my Folders transferred to Live Mail so, I don't think by removing it I'd be losing anything of value.

Thank you,

No easy way to remove it that I know of. It has usually been part and parcel of Internet Explorer and has been installed with IE's download package. It really doesn't take up much space. You could just delete the folder, but I imagine that would leave some dead-end registry entries and paths. Can you just ignore it?

Ok, I'll just let it be...
Thanks for the reply Elvandil.

Yes, I can ignore it like I have been doing anyway.

I just wanted to see how others have handled this,
if at all, and you answered my question.

I believe I saw where it only takes up about
4.5MB on my system so, that's minimal impact.

Thanks very much!

Hi Telstar,
If your happy with it, there's no real reason to keep OE.
I don't think you can totally uninstall it as its bundled with IE.
Just use the Add/Remove Programs so you don't mess up IE.
I would suggest burning the DBX's to CD first, in case you decide you desperately need something from them, like when the inevitable Microsoft bug shows up and you lose everything in Windows Live Mail.
Then delete the ones on the HD to free up the space.
T.
By the way, why are you still using Firefox 1.5?

I had a feeling someone might pick up on that.

Well, for one reason, many of my favorite Extensions weren't updated so I could use them in 2.0 and then, just haven't gotten around to checking on the most recent activity. My 1.5 works "perfectly" and I'd hate to go through all the trouble of ungrading only to find out I'm missing something I want or need.
(Don't know about you but, replacing one version of FF with a newer one can take me many hours of "fiddlin' around" with it to get it just the way I like it) so, I need to be sure I have dedicated the time once I make the decision to "go for it".

Wish there was a way I could have BOTH versions, but I don't think that's possible.

I may get around to upgrading some day soon, once the spirit moves me.

Thanks for your reply also throoper.
