Unhappy Solved: Unwanted Internet Access
Recently my PC (Windows XP SP2 Dial-up connection) has taken to dialling my ISP without my involvement. The connections are frequent and continuous. AdAware, Spybot and AVG (Anti Virus and Anti Spyware) have revealed no Dialers or other nasties. Are my settings incorrect; are my 'security programs' trying to update themselves; or am I the victim of something else? All guidance appreciated.

Control Panel - Internet Options - Connections tab. Tell us what is selected ('Never ...,' 'Dial whenever ...' or 'Always dial') and somebody may have some suggestions. Actually, if you don't like what you see there you will probably find the solution.

Select "Never dial ...". That way it should never dial except when you explicitly tell it to do so.
