Problem with new DSL Modem...Vista and Embarq
Sorry, I originally posted this in Introductions but think it probably belongs here.

Vista Laptop Connection Problem with Embarq 660 DSL Modem
I have three computers, including a new Toshiba Qosmio F45 with Vista Ultimate. It worked fine with the old (645 series) modem which their tech rep helped me convert to their new protocall over the phone while waiting for the new, 660 modem to arrive.

The new modem installation went as planned until Windows Vista reached a certain point in booting up then the Ethernet light on the modem went out and stayed out. Unable to connect and "network cable disconnected" was the answer when I tried to troubleshoot the connection. Cables were all fine so I tried with my older XP Toshiba laptop and got on easily. The modem DID install software (from the modem at startup, not a disc) and I suspect that with the Vista unit that installation was stopped during start up by Vista and the cable disconnected message was the result.

Returned to the old modem and all is fine again. I will keep the new model as backup since Embarq tech reps could not offer an answer and said the problem is my computer. LOL, I see THAT differently but believe there must be a work around. Not critical since everything works as well with my old modem (reprogrammed for their new protocol.

Anyone else experience this or have a solution? Curiosity as to whether or not my guess is correct.

Ste-P
