Angry Web Browser and file Associations

OK, Here is the deal. I was trying to be a nice person and install IE7 on my sisters Dell Dimension 4700C.

Once the program was installed it said the computer must restart. I let it restart and then nothing. No new IE7. I opened the original IE6 and if I typed in a web address ex.
http://google.com - I received a message saying This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel.

I can't open any web page regardless of what it is. I can't download any programs because I can't input any address into the address area.

She started having problems with downloading flash player. When she downloaded that it came with Opera browser software. She was using that and wanted to go back to Internet Explorer. I tried to upgrade and now have this problem. Once the computer restarted it told me it wasn't installed properly and to check thetroubleshooting link it left on my desktop. However, I can't use my browser to open it because there is no file associated with it.

Can anyone help????
Thanks.

See if HTM and HTML file associations are set to iexplore.exe.

Open My Computer, click on 'Tools' >> 'Folder Options' >> 'File Types' tab.

Scroll to HTM and click on it. Click on the 'Advanced' button.

Where you see 'Actions' type in "open" without the quotes.

Click on the 'Edit' button.

Click on 'Browse' and navigate to iexplore.exe, click OK.

Included is a screenshot of 'Editing action for type' although you can see I use Opera, just substitute ie for what you see in the screenshot.

Do the same for HTML in file associations.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, I'll have to give it a whirl, but I'm not in the same state as my sisters computer. It's going to take about a week before I can try it. She isn't computer literate enough to try this as a walk through. I'll let ya know if it works.
