Solved: Videos won't play even with Flash update!
I did everything recommended (reviewed security settings, removed old Flash version, updated IE to ver.7, added service pack 3 to XP) but still nothing... The updated version is installed but still, no videos .

From the postings in other sites, there seems to be a problem in this area but neither Google, You Tube or Adobe have addressed this with their customers.

Anybody else facing this problem? If you have a solution, please share.

Did you verify that your Flash Player works?

Still unsuccessful
Ran the test, installed something macromedia, the test showed that the installation completed successfully. I restarted the computer went into my YouTube channel, but I can't see any videos yet.

*sigh* I wonder what the problem is... Any other ideas?

When you say you did everything recommended...is that from YouTube Support?

Possibly your security settings in IE are blocking it or maybe your firewall.
Have no ideas other than those.

I followed YouTube's, Google's and Adobe's advice. My IE settings haven't changed as I don't like to mess with those things but I did check the scripting settings (ok), turned off the pop up blockers, virus protection and firewall while I did the updating.

I have a gut feeling that some issues have erupted in YouTube with this new version of Flash in this IE environment.

I'll keep checking. Thanks for your effort. If you come across anything new, let me know.

Is there a particular YouTube video you can't play or will NONE of the YouTube videos play?

Peace...

None of the videos play. I click on any thumbnail and the "Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player." comes up.

I checked in the Adobe forums and this is a problem that is affecting a LOT of people for the past few days. Seems like there is a big problem and the new version of Adobe is not working well. I hope they come up with a solution real soon.

Did you check to make sure javascript is working?

http://www.bodo.com/javame.htm

(I use IE7 and Adobe Flash Player 9 - and have no trouble at YouTube).

Check your downloaded program folder for a damaged entry.
IE->Tools->Internet Options->Browsing History settings button ->View Objects Button.
If any entries are damaged, right click to remove them.

I also checked the browsing history: How do I know which entries are damaged?

Something interesting, after much searching. The only place where I can't watch videos is YouTube. I looked around other video hosting sites (including Google video) and I could play videos that used the Flash Player. My gut feeling is that YouTube has some work to do to fix this problem or they are going to lose a lot of users.

When you look into your Downloaded Program Files folder,
if any are damaged, it will say they are damaged. If nothing
unusual shows up there, then most likely they are OK.

Have no idea why only YouTube is affected.

Thumbs up Problem solved
Had a good night's sleep and woke up to retrace my steps with a refreshed brain.

Ran a disk cleanup and defrag just in case. Followed steps once more and everything looked well, but no videos still.

Then, I remembered that I had just updated to IE 7 and installed XP Service Pack 3, so I checked the Scripting and ActiveX Sections within Tools-Internet Options-Restricted-Custom Level, and there it was. Active Scripting and Java Applets Scripting weren't enabled, and ActiveX Controls and Plug Ins weren't allowed to run.

I checked off the appropriate boxes and voila, my You Tube channel is up and running.

Thank you folks, you have been very patient with this newbie.

Wow, thanks for that update. Those installing SP3 will definitely want to be aware of this.

Peace...

SP3 has been causing some other problems as well - recommendation
to anyone: do not install SP3 until Microsoft does some more
work on it.

Glad you can now run YouTube!
