Solved: Outlook Express will not send email
Could someone help me as I have both Outlook Express and Widows Mail. I can send mail from Windows Mail but when I click on a link in a webpage, Outlook Express always opens. When I type my email and press send it appears to send it. However I recently found that all my emails were sitting in the outbox and there is no way I can get Outlook Express to send them. Perhaps I can only have one email program at a time?? If someone could advise how I get Outlook to send emails I would be very grateful. Judy

You might need to check your POP3 and SMTP settings also look for any error message that outlook express throws up and post them here so that way it gives more of a detailed clue.

re Outlook Express
Outlook does not throw up any error message - just stores my emails in outbox and does not send them. How do I check these settings. Sorry I am so computer illiterate. Do you think it would be OK just to disable Outlook in some way, I never use it or should I perhaps delete it??? I am quite happy just using Windows Mail. Thanks for your help

to get to the POP3 and SMTP For outlook express you need to

1. select the tools option from above,
2. then select accounts,
3. then click on the mail tab and
4. then either click ADD for a mail account
5. or if an account is there then click properties to view the current email account
6. Then find out if you have the correct pop3 and smtp settings in the server or connection tab.

re outlook express
Hello P. Thanks for that - I think we may be getting somewhere. I went to tools/ accounts and the "Add New Email Account" was selected. However i went to "Next" which bought up "You can Choose the type of Server your new email account will work with" It gave the following options (all unchecked) (1) Microsoft Exchange Server (2) POP 3 - connect to a POP server, (3) IMAP connect to IMAP (4) HTTP (5) Add new server. Now as non of these have been selected, could this be the problem. If so which should I select?? Also will two email programs (outlook and Windows Mail) fight? Judy

Well your best bet would be either to use POP3 settings depending on who provides your email address, usually provided by your ISP who gives your access to the internet when you connect.

If you have a hotmail, yahoo or gmail account then you could include that in your POP3 setup, but be warned for those to work, you would have to buy a yearly subscription to those email providers. Its quite cheap though.

Here below is an example of setting up hotmail via outlook express

Thanks P. I will ring up my ISP provider and get them to talk me through it. Just not sure that by enabling Outlook Express, I won't cause problems with Windows Mail. The only reason I would use Outlook Express is that it seems to pop up when I surf the web and click on links for people's emails. Do people usually have two email providers?

Some people have many email providers. Some use emails addresses for work, some personal or even email allocated from colleges or learning courses
