Troublesome URL
When I connect with a certain URL, http://www.falara.org, I get an old version of the website that I had previously viewed(circa 2007) not the current one. I have no problem when using a different computer.
I'm using an iMac PowerPC 750, with Firefox Panther, Safari, and Internet Explorer. None of them can get me to the current page. I appreciate any help; thanks.

My first thought would be that the page is cached, but if it's happening in different browsers, that's unlikely. Try holding shift and clicking refresh (I think that should work on Macs as well as PCs) to reload the page from the server.

It may be that you are loading the same page as everyone else, but it just renders differently on your computer. Can you post the source code of the site or upload it in a text file so we can compare what you're seeing?

What happens if you put the IP address for that domain into your browser(s) (68.178.254.32) instead of the URL? That site loads for me using XP and Opera.

What browser are you using? You should be able to connect to the site using an IP address (not that it will make any difference to the content).

I get the same source as you (though that doesn't mean much because the site uses frames ) but I'm pretty sure you should be getting the right content. What makes you think it's outdated?

I'm using Firefox and Safari.
The "upcoming activities" listed happened a year ago, and when I go to the
library the site available has entirely new (current) material.
Here's what I've tried so far:
removed url from bookmarks
deleted history
cleared Disk cache, history, cookies
tried refresh
posted source code of the site
entered IP address-got BAD REQUEST(invalid hostname)

I really appreciate your kindness in hanging in with me.....

Have you tried the URL or IP address since you cleared the caches of your browsers? Presumably you won't get the 'old' page anymore, only an error message.

I'm asking because, with Windows, problems getting to single sites can sometimes involve things called Hosts files. Do you know if Macs have them?.

Mac must have Hosts files, because I just retried the IP address and got:
BAD REQUEST(invalid hostname).

I'm not sure that the use of the word 'hosts' in your error message necessarily means that Macs have the equivalent of a Windows Hosts file.

If you do the Mac equivalent of a Windows 'Find all files' search, using 'Hosts' as the subject, what, if anything, comes up?

If a computer connects to a TCP/IP network, it must have a host file. It's part of the TCP/IP protocol. Macs have a hosts file.

Safari will need some help. Use http://IP ADDRESS to connect. Don't just type in the IP address. Try: http://68.178.254.32.

Also, try pinging falara.org. If you get the same IP address as above, your problem is not your hosts file.

@ benfleck

The page I get at that link says it was last modified on 7-5-07.

Do you know for a fact that a newer page exists? Maybe it
is a slightly different URL?

EDIT: added new URL

Try this URL - this shows a current update 10-20-08

Tnx for the reply. I tried your latest modivied webpage, and got the newspaper site in the headere, but the connection thru them was my same old one. Something in my computer is triggering the old falara.org whenever it hears it. I really appreciate your help.
