 | Junior Member with 3 posts. | | | | can't renew ip address, post XP reinstall hello all, i am so sorry to bother with what could be an easy fix. i have searched for weeks online and everything i try just aint workin. i had to reinstall XP on a new dell vostro 1500 after getting the BSOD due to a bad video driver i believe is what it said. fine, post reinstall i can't log onto my wireless network. i use a motorola sb5120 modem and a d-link wbr2310 router. my other laptop can get on to my wireless network fine. i can use my LAN to get online but not the wireless. i tried ipconfig /renew on the non-working laptop when i have wireless enabled but i get the error: The DHCP client has obtained an IP address that is already in use on the network. The local interface will be disabled until the DHCP client can obtain a new address. No operation can be performed on Network Connect Adapter while it has its media disconnected. I don’t have any firewalls enabled or spyware or anything like that. I have tried disabling security on my WEP enabled network as well but that didn’t help matters either. Below is the ipconfig /all from the non-wireless-working laptop when its LAN connected and the working laptop from the wireless network: Dell Vostro 1500 IPCONFIG /ALL (this is the one that can’t renew IP address and can’t get onto my wireless network) Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp. I suggest that you disable ICS on the Vostro. | | Junior Member with 3 posts. | | | | still need help. angryyyyyyyyyy i tried disconnecting the ICS and tried to change the router setup as well by enabling DCHP reservation and added the vostro but it still didn't work. this time when i did ipconfig /renew the error message i got was:

That shouldn't cause any problem, but why add another variable?
(from a JohnWill post)
IP addresses of 0.0.0.0 are normally caused by one of the following.
Diagnosis:
1. DHCP Service not running.
2. Duplicate IP address on the network.
3. Bad NIC card drivers.
4. Defective NIC hardware.
Resolution:
1. Check Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. The DHCP Client service should be Started and its Startup Type should be Automatic.
2. Turn off ALL of the computers and other network connected devices, reboot the router, then restart all the computers and other network devices.
3. Check for upgraded drivers and/or reload the Network drivers.
4. Replace the Network Interface Card. | THIS THREAD HAS EXPIRED.
