Ok awhile ago I did a system restore as figured I messed up some stuff. Anyway after the system restore I tried to go on Outlook and it could not find something and Personal folder or something came up and I changed that to outlook then I could finally get on outlook. Now when I go to where you change to where you want it sent there is now Outlook, Practice and Personal Folders. I clicked on Practice. Now going into the microsoft outlock on the side there where it says all folders there is Practice, Hotmail, Outlook and Personal folders. When I click on any of them except for Hotmail they are empty.

Did you restart Outlook 2003 after changing the Default delivery location?

If so, verify your View is set to Messages:
View > Arrange By > Current View > Messages

OK.

You might also check the directory containing the .pst files, are there more .pst files in that directory then what appears in Outlook 2003?

Do a Search for .pst files.

We'll be here when you need us.

The other Personal Folders are now showing their contents?

The Personal Folders containing the message stuck in the Outbox is no longer the Default Delivery Location?
Is Outlook still running in Work Offline mode?

If you change the Default Delivery Location to the Hotmail Personal Folders, close and restart Outlook, can you then delete the message in the Outbox?

Another option would be to Close the Personal Folders so it no longer appears in Outlook.
The Personal Folders containing the stuck message is named "Outlook", correct?

If so, right click on the Personal Folders "Outlook" and select: Close "Outlook"
The Outlook Personal Folders will disconnect from Outlook and no longer appear in Outlook 2003.

Close and restart Outlook 2003, then reconnect the "Outlook" Personal Folders:
File > Open > Outlook Data File
Browse to the location of the .pst file and select it.
The "Outlook" Personal Folders should then reappear in Outlook 2003.
Attempt to delete the message in the Outbox.

It doesn't sound like the Default Delivery Location has been changed.

If the Personal Folders containing the stuck messages is no longer the Default Delivery Location, Outlook 2003 will stop trying to send from that particular Outbox. It will be using the Outbox for the Personal Folders that is the Default Delivery Location.

If you right click the Personal Folders containing the stuck message, is the option:
Close "Personal Folders enabled?
If that option is not enabled or "greyed" out, then that Personal Folders is still the Default Delivery Location.

Is Outlook 2003 still in Work Offline mode? Closing and restarting Outlook 2003 in Work Offline mode should have also made Outlook stop trying to send from the Outbox.

Hi yvesj

The thread starter is using Microsoft Outlook 2003, not Outlook Express, two different e-mail programs.

Thanks for the clarification. Yes to answer your question I am in Work Offline my default for the e mail is set for Practice. When I right click on Personal folders containing the stuck message the option Close personal folders is enabled. You are right it stops trying to send it when I am in Work offline but so far I have still not been able to delete it.

When I right click on the stuck file and right click the delete outbox it is in light grey so can not use that. When I go over to the e mail and attachment and click on them they also just stay

Did you try closing the Personal Folders from Outlook, closing and restarting Outlook then reconnecting the Personal Folders?
