Arrow Outlook 2007 RSS feed rules
I have made rules for my RSS feeds to be thrown into a specific category when they come in. The rules are not running when the RSS feeds hit my inbox. All other rules are working, and when i click on:
  • Rules and Alerts
  • "Enable rules on all RSS Feeds" is checked
  • Run Rules Now
and then apply the rule to my existing RSS rules, it will assign the categories. So, for whatever reason, the rules are not running when I get the RSS feeds.

I have another rule that moves gmail to its own folder, and anytime I get a gmail, it moves, so I know the rules in themselves are moving. A rule example not working correctly is:
  • Apply this rule after the message arrives
  • From RSS Feeds with specified text in the title
  • and on this machine only
  • |
  • Assign it to the category category
"Turn on this rule" is checked (and I stress the point this works on an existing rule )

I don't have an answer, but did find a blog page about this from 2008.

I found that categorizing RSS feeds was tedious and much easier to do as part of the structure of the feed list. In other words, if the feeds are set up, defined, and organized in a hierarchy of folders and subfolders, they are self-categorizing.

Unfortunately, most RSS readers, including Outlook, do not support folders (much less multiple levels of folders) and a hierarchy structure, and some that do cannot export/import OPML that is structured, and some of those cannot maintain the structure. I tried a lot of RSS Readers before I found ones that worked for me.
