Outlook 2003
I am having trouble with Outlook 2003 in one particular area. I have an email stuck in the sent folders. you cannot open it and there is nothing to read. In trying to delete it I get the error message "Cyclic Redundancy Check". . Also get the message "this item cannot be displayed in the reading Payne." Have tried everything I know to get rid of it but no luck. Even did an outlook repair, no luck.

I am sure there is a an Outlook guru out there that can resolve this problem. running XP home. Gary

Hi staffingpro

Have you tried running the scanpst.exe tool on the .pst file?

See this link: http://www.slipstick.com/problems/scanpst.asp

It states to run scandisk.exe on the hard drive, to check for errors on the hard drive, then run the scanpst.exe tool on the .pst file, repeating the cycle 3-4 times:
Quote:
For seriously corrupted PST files, try running Scandisk.exe (look under Programs | Accessories | System Tools) first, then Scanpst.exe, repeating 3-4 times until neither program returns an error. We've know this technique to restore data that the user though was lost forever.
Quote:
If the file is on an NTFS volume, you can't use Scandisk.exe so easily. One approach, for Windows 2000, is to open the drive in My Computer and use the Tools menu commands to scan the disk. You may need to restart Windows for the scan to run.

As a benchmark for yourself, note the number of errors found each time, to determine if the errors are being reduced on subsequent runs.

Let us know what happens.

Outlook 2003
Thanks for the info. Unfortunately I was trying to help my wife fix the outlook problem on her machine. so she decided just to dump office and then reinstall it. Now she has a problem that says a file is missing during the install. It is L2561412.cab. Have no idea what this is. Can you help. gary

I would run Scandisk.exe first, to check for hard drive errors.
The .pst file was originally complaining about a "Cyclic Redundancy Check".

If the error checking comes back without errors, download and run the Windows Installer Clean up utility, restart the computer then attempt to install Microsoft Office.

Thanks, it looks like she has it working. Going to run the cleanup anyway.

I would be more concerned with bad sectors on the hard drive.

Running the Installer cleanup utility would be a backwards step if Office is already installed and working.
