can't access email from LAN
ANY ASSISTANCE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!

My home computer has broadband internet connection with outlook email. Why can't I access my email from my laptop? Home computer OS is XP, and my laptop OS is Vista.

I really don't like Vista, is there an easy way to convert back to MS XP?

Thanks,
from a really computer illiterate Aussie female.

Hi gazzabuck1

Are you receiving any error messages from Outlook when performing a Send/Receive on the laptop?

Do you have the option: Leave a copy of messages on the server enabled for both e-mail programs?

Are you using Outlook 2003 on both machines?

Set Outlook 2003 to leave a copy of messages on the server:
Tools > E-mail Accounts > View or change existing e-mail accounts > Next
Double click the e-mail account
More Settings button > Advanced tab
Place a check mark in: Leave a copy of messages on the server
OK, Next, Finish to save and close.

Repeat this setting for Outlook on the laptop.

Send yourself a message as a Test, download it with the Desktop computer then try downloading it with the laptop computer.

Let us know if that works for you or not.

If you want to dual boot Vista and XP, or just dump Vista and use XP alone, there are two major steps.

First, make sure all the needed XP drivers (chipset, networking, display, sound, etc.) are available for your PC from the PC manufacturer's web site. When/if you find them you may as well download them to another computer or removable media so that they will be readily available.

Second, assuming success in finding drivers, buy a legitimate Windows XP CD.

There are some minor steps I'd recommend also. For example, if your only way of reinstalling the Vista you already paid for is a Recovery Partition, make a set of Recovery DVDs/CDs while you still can. Even if you are going to dual boot, make sure your data is backed up in case anything goes wrong during the XP install. Actually, I recommend these steps independently of changing or adding an OS.

Question outlook error messages
The lap top cannot even access outlook, as an error message comes up each time I try to connect. Message reads:

"Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. MAP132.DLL is corrupt or the wrong working version"

If we installed MS Outlook 2007 on both the PC and Laptop would this work with the PC using XP and the laptop Vista?

Do you have Show Hidden Files and Folders enabled?
For Windows XP:
  • Open My Computer or Windows Explorer
Tools > Folder Options > View tab,
under Hidden Files and Folders, verify Show Hidden Files and Folders is selected.
    Remove the check marks for:
Hide Extensions for known file types
Apply, OK to save and close.

Installing Office 2007 may work, try this first:
Do a Search for MSMAPI32.DLL and rename or delete only that file.
Do not rename or delete the MAPI32.DLL

Also what looks like a one (1), in the file name, is actually an i as in (igloo).

After renaming or deleting the MSMAPI32.DLL file, attempt to start Outlook 2003, you may also need to run
Help > Detect and Repair within Outlook 2003.
